One of the most spectacular events of the 2026 Tarragona Carnival is the Disfressa d’Or (Golden Costume). This competition, inspired by the world’s greatest carnivals, is a combination of dance, light, and creativity.
The groups have 3 minutes to showcase their talent and win recognition for the best central costume. This performance, with a large-scale production, becomes a vibrant competition of colors and music, with spectacularity taking center stage.
The winners cannot participate the following year, allowing new talents the opportunity to shine and keeping the Carnival fresh and innovative each year.

Entrance of the King and Concubine of the Carnival.
👑 Wednesday, February 11th, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM
First, the Carnival of Tarragona officially begins with the Entrance of King Carnival and his Concubine, marking the start of the festivities, right next to TGNA Reding 22.
The presentation takes place at Plaça Corsini, where the public gathers to witness the protagonists of the Carnival. After that, the King, the Concubine, and their entourages head to the Tarragona Theatre, where a dance and music performance is held to welcome the grand celebration.
Although it is a more symbolic event, it is the perfect way to get into the spirit of the Carnival of Tarragona.
Baixada del Pajaritu: Soapbox race.

The Baixada del Pajaritu, organized by the Colla Jove de Tarragona, is one of the most original activities of the Tarragona Carnival.
So, from 11:00 AM, you have an appointment with dozens of soapboxes full of humor, satire, and creativity, racing between Plaça del Rei and Cós del Bou street.
With hay bales marking the course, the jury awards the best runs, the most original soapboxes, and the most spectacular falls. A morning of fun, laughter, and absurdly funny crashes that you can’t miss!
Rua de l’Artesania: the big parade

Next, another highlight of the Carnival of Tarragona is the Artesania Parade. This grand procession, which starts at 18:00 in front of the Parc Central Shopping Center and ends at the Law Faculty of the URV, features the participation of over 2,500 people who showcase their creations with spectacular costumes and choreographed routines.
This grand parade of the Tarragona groups is an explosion of creativity and energy, and a unique moment to enjoy the best part of the Carnival of Tarragona, with the King and the Concubine closing the procession.
Tarragona Carnival NIght Party.

Without a doubt, after enjoying the spectacular Rua de l’Artesania (Craft Parade), we will still have the energy to keep the party going and experience a night of great music and atmosphere at Plaça Corsini, right in front of TGNA Reding 22.
There’s no better way to do it than surrounded by friends, with the best Carnival music.

Lluïment Parade.

The following day, the Rua de Lluïment (Showcase Parade) takes center stage with an event dedicated to the winning troupes of the previous year’s Tarragona Carnival.
In this parade, the groups once again showcase their creations through the streets of downtown Tarragona, allowing the public to enjoy their incredible costumes and choreographies once more.
This parade is a shorter event than the Artesania Parade, but no less spectacular. The procession is led by the King and the Concubine from the previous year, followed by the 13 highest-scoring groups from the year before.
Tarragona Drag Contest: Drag Queen Gala.

Another standout event of the 2026 Tarragona Carnival is the XX Tarragona Drag Competition, one of the most important Drag Queen contests in Catalonia.
Indeed, this contest brings together the best local drag queens, with performances full of creativity, spectacle, and talent.

Mascarada del dol: final event

The Tarragona Carnival comes to an end with the Mascarada del Dol (Mourning Masquerade), a solemn farewell ceremony for King Carnestoltes and his Concubine.
This sadly amusing event involves a procession through various points of the Part Alta, where the coffins of the King and the Concubine are publicly displayed. The ceremony culminates with a symbolic burning, bringing the celebration to an end until the following year.
