The announcement that our city will be within the path of totality for the upcoming eclipse in Tarragona on August 12, 2026, has generated great excitement. In fact, the response has been so positive that we are already practically ready to hang the “fully booked” sign.
It is true that we are talking about August, peak summer season, but what has truly made the difference is the large number of bookings registered specifically targeting this date.
However, from a strictly technical point of view, it must be borne in mind that not all locations in the city of Tarragona will be suitable for observation. You must pay attention to the terrain topography and look carefully at official sources’ data, as global guidelines rarely capture the reality at street level.
For this reason, many might face major disappointment when, at the critical hour, the Sun hides behind a neighboring building such as, for instance, The Kube tower (Independència Street / Torres Jordi Street), which would force a rush to find an alternative location.
Dinner with TGNA guests for the eclipse
On August 12, from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, we will experience a historic phenomenon, and at TGNA Tarragona Apartments we want to make it unforgettable. For this reason, we will open the rooftop of the TGNA Reial 1 building exclusively to experience the solar eclipse in a very special way.

How to see the eclipse in Tarragona
On April 30, we went up to the rooftop of TGNA Reial 1 to carry out an in situ test and check the sunset we usually see in spring over El Serrallo and Torres Jordi.
But in summer, the Sun follows a different path; we know for sure that looking ahead to Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 8:30 PM, which is the key minute of total darkness during the eclipse, the Sun will be precisely at 286° azimuth. We will no longer see it set at that spring point, but it will clearly shift to the right, pointing directly towards the urban layout of the city.
Furthermore, the altitude of the star will be extremely low, at just 4.4° above the horizon. Since the inclination is so reduced, any building or obstacle in the urban layout will block the Sun at street level; therefore, being on a rooftop or at a high point in the city will be key to enjoying the eclipse in Tarragona.
Safe viewing with Òptica Fullana and TGNA
Finding a good spot is just as important as protecting your eyes properly to watch the eclipse. For this reason, we are collaborating with Òptica Fullana, a historic establishment and a benchmark for local trade on Rambla Nova, where you can buy your eclipse glasses.
Thanks to this agreement, at TGNA Tarragona Apartments we will offer our guests 500 special and certified glasses to follow the entire eclipse in total safety, as watching it without the appropriate filter can cause serious injuries to the retina.
