Where to watch the eclipse in Tarragona?

Directors of Óptica Fullana and TGNA Tarragona Apartaments watching the sunset with certified glasses, simulating the total solar eclipse in Tarragona from the rooftop of TGNA Reial 1.

The announcement that our city will be within the path of totality for the upcoming eclipse in Tarragona on August 12, 2026, has generated a great deal of excitement. In fact, the response has been so positive that we can practically already hang up the fully booked sign. While it is true that we are talking about August, peak summer season, what has really made the difference is the sheer volume of bookings made specifically with this day in mind. However, from a strictly technical point of view, it is worth noting that not all locations within the city of Tarragona will be suitable for viewing. You must watch out for the local terrain and take data from official sources with a grain of salt, as global guidelines rarely account for the reality at street level. For this reason, many could face huge disappointment when, right at the critical moment, the Sun hides behind a neighboring building—such as The Kube tower (Independència Street / Torres Jordi Street)—forcing a frantic last-minute rush to find an alternative spot. At TGNA Tarragona Apartaments, we have done our homework. Consequently, it is clear to us that the view from the rooftop of TGNA Reial 1 will be completely unobstructed, offering total visibility, and we will be opening it especially for this day. How to watch the eclipse in Tarragona On April 30th, we went up to the rooftop of TGNA Reial 1 to conduct an on-site test and check the sunset we usually see in spring over the Serrallo and Torres Jordi neighborhoods. However, in the summer, the Sun follows a different path; we know for a fact that on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 8:30 PM—the key minute of total darkness during the eclipse—the Sun will be locked at an azimuth of 286°. Therefore, we will no longer see it setting at that spring point; instead, it will move clearly to the right, pointing directly towards the city’s urban grid. Furthermore, the sun’s altitude will be extremely low, at just 4.4° above the horizon. Because this inclination is so low, any building or obstacle in the urban landscape will block the Sun at street level; therefore, being on a rooftop or an elevated point in the city will be essential to enjoying the eclipse in Tarragona. Safe viewing with Óptica Fullana and TGNA Finding a good spot is just as important as properly protecting your eyes to watch the eclipse. For this reason, we are partnering with Òptica Fullana, a historic establishment and a cornerstone of local business on Rambla Nova, where you can buy your eclipse glasses. Thanks to this agreement, at TGNA Tarragona Apartaments we will provide our guests with 500 special, certified glasses to follow the entire eclipse safely, as viewing it without the proper filter can cause severe retinal damage. If you are still not completely sure where to stay in Tarragona during the eclipse, we highly recommend booking your vacation rental in Tarragona with us. Above all, make sure to find a good, elevated spot in the city to enjoy the event with a completely unobstructed horizon.

Beaches of Tarragona

Tarragona is a city that captivates with its history. However, it is on the coast and in its beaches where its most natural treasures are found. From the center of the city of Tarragona to the most hidden coves of the Bosc de la Marquesa, the 13 kilometers of the Tarragona coastline are ideal for a quiet stay in one of our apartments in Tarragona. In addition, the beaches and coves of Tarragona are interconnected by the Camí de Ronda, a route that coincides with the GR 92 (Stage 25: Torredembarra-Tarragona), which offers spectacular views of the Costa Daurada. 🌊 Check the state of the beaches Tarragona: a protected natural treasure Tarragona is an extensive municipality that has three natural areas protected by the Plan for Areas of Natural Interest (PEIN). In fact, in the Natural Areas of Tamarit-Punta de la Móra and the Mouth of the Gaià River, the landscape is constantly changing. We find cliffs, stone pines bent by the sea breeze, and a large number of birds like the cormorant. You can either take a tour of the 34 km network of marked paths of the Anella Verda or take the coastal path starting from the Moll de Costa, next to TGNA Reial 1, until you reach Tamarit Castle. Miracle Beach This is the most urban beach in Tarragona, accessible on foot from the city center. It’s the ideal option for a quick getaway to a 980-meter long regenerated sandy beach (finally without the “mamotreto”), with views of the marina and the city’s seafront. Arrabassada Beach 2.2 kilometers from TGNA Llúria 11, Arrabassada beach is the most popular urban beach due to its width of 60 meters and length of 550 meters, and its beach bars that are open all year round. Its fine sand, calm waters, and promenade make it perfect for both families and athletes who do their daily routine running or cycling. Savinosa Beach Savinosa beach is known for its tranquility and for being a place where nature still plays a leading role. Surrounded by pine trees and with a nudist section, Savinosa beach is a Blue Flag beach that is ideal for tranquility. The sand is of high quality, it has showers and a bar, but parking is limited. Capellans Beach Capellans beach is a small cove hidden among cliffs. Thanks to this natural protection, the sea is calm there even with an undertow, unlike more exposed beaches such as Llarga Beach or Miracle Beach It does not have services, which gives it a more natural and pristine environment. The sand is fine and it is an ideal place for an intimate getaway. Access is easy by car, but parking can be a challenge. Llarga Beach Its name says it all: it is the most extensive beach in the city with almost 3 kilometres in length, which has different beach bars and restaurants. Despite being very crowded in the summer and having parking that is sometimes complicated, its wide extension makes it easy to find a quiet place to lay out your towel and spend the day, either by taking a peaceful walk from one end to the other or by hand-picking some razor clams. Cala Fonda o Waikiki Cala Fonda is the natural paradise of Tarragona. This secluded cove with fine sand is exclusively accessible on foot from Platja Llarga. Once you arrive, the beauty of its surroundings, with pine forests and transparent waters, will take your breath away. Having no services, l’Arboçar is a completely natural beach that must be respected, as it lives and suffers from social overexposure. Roca Plana Its protected environment makes it an idyllic place to disconnect. Access is on foot, a small effort from La Móra or Llarga beach that is completely worth it, as it lacks services. Located in the area known as the Marquesa Forest, this cove is a hidden gem. La Móra Beach La Móra beach is a Blue Flag beach, 450 meters long with a family-friendly atmosphere. Despite its urban surroundings, it retains a natural essence with pines, fine sand, and complete services. Its proximity to the residential and restaurant area makes it very convenient for families, although parking can be tricky in the summer. Cala Jovera With Tamarit Castle as a backdrop, this small cove with fine sand is a magical place. It’s the smallest in the area and is perfect for a quick visit. However, it has no services, and the nearest paid parking is inside the campsites. Tamarit Beach Located right next to the castle, Tamarit beach is a spectacular place. The sand is fine with pebbles (in winter) and the beach is very extensive, reaching as far as El Vinyet and La Roca del Gaià, with full services and a blue flag. It is part of a protected natural area, with the mouth of the Gaià river as a natural bastion with its characteristic ducks, and the castle as a spectacular heritage element. Map of the beaches of Tarragona Finally, if you have any questions about which beach to visit, the TGNA team at Tarragona Apartments is here to help. We’ll help you find the one that best suits your tastes and guide you to a hassle-free access.

Saint George’s Day in Tarragona

A red Saint George rose with the Mediterranean Balcony and the sea of Tarragona in the background.

Saint George’s Day on Rambla Nova in Tarragona The Rambla Nova hosts more than 150 book and rose stalls. It is the main hub of the festivities, where booksellers, florists, and local community organizations come together. The festive activity on a working day starts early in the morning and lasts until evening, with large crowds gathering in search of the latest book releases and the traditional red rose. Sant Jordi’s day of human towers in Tarragona At 8:00 PM, the day culminates with a performance by the city’s four human tower teams (‘colles castelleres’) at the Balcó del Mediterrani section, the very last stretch of Rambla Nova. This ‘castells’ performance lasts 45 minutes, and the teams can build as many towers as they wish, just as it was done in the old days. The Xiquets de Tarragona, the Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona, the Xiquets del Serrallo, and the Colla Castellera de Sant Pere i Sant Pau build the first human towers of the season in the first joint event of the local calendar. Tarragona authors and new releases in Catalan The day is highlighted by the presence of local writers signing their works at the stalls. This year, the local spotlight is on the presentation of the books ‘Serrallo, memòries salades‘, the first book by Pitu Mosquits, and the work by Pau Ricomà, ‘De qui és la música? These titles share the spotlight with the main new releases in Catalan that set the pace for the literary season across the country. Open house at the city’s heritage sites On April 23rd, several monumental sites offer free admission: Family activities and popular culture The cultural agenda includes various activities spread throughout the city: Sant Jordi bread from Forn Sistaré The city’s gastronomic offer adapts to the festival with local and artisanal proposals. One of the essentials is the Sant Jordi bread from Forn Sistaré, located right next to our apartment buildings. This year, Kris from TGNA Reding 22 has already tasted it and highlighted the quality of the product. To complete the tradition, we have paired it with a red rose, the detail that is never missing on this day. Apartments for Sant Jordi in Tarragona For those visiting the city during Sant Jordi week, staying in apartments in the city center allows you to experience Catalonia’s most literary and romantic festival from the inside. On our part, we will have both the TGNA Rambla 68 and TGNA Reding 22 buildings beautifully decorated throughout the week to welcome our guests in a lovely and relaxed atmosphere.

Easter Week in Tarragona 2026

Holy Week in Tarragona 2025, a traditional procession in the city. Stay in central apartments in Tarragona with TGNA Tarragona Apartments.

Holy Week in Tarragona is one of the most powerful cultural events in Catalonia, recognized as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. From March 29 to April 6, 2026, the Part Alta (Old Town) becomes the stage for Christian rituals that the people of Tarragona have kept alive since 1550. In Tarragona, Holy Week is synonymous with silence. It is a celebration ruled by sobriety, where the most intriguing details are often hidden beneath the vesta (penitential robe), the cuculla (hood), and the armor of the armats. Stations of the Cross and Procession in El Serrallo Saturday, March 28, 2026 This event in the maritime district represents the first major act outside the historic center. The image of the Holy Christ moving through the streets of El Serrallo is one of the most authentic moments of our tradition. Furthermore, it is a particularly special event for us, as the president of the ‘Presa de Jesús’ guild, Pitu Mosquits, collaborated on our Holy Week video and shared that he will be presenting his first book of memoirs on Sant Jordi’s Day. Day and Time Event Location 28/03, 10:30 Children’s Marching Bands Meeting (15th Anniv.) From Plaça de la Font to Sant Miquel del Pla 28/03, 19:30 Fishermen’s Guild Stations of the Cross & Procession Sant Pere Church, El Serrallo Via Crucis of ‘La Sang’ and Palm Sunday Sunday, March 29, 2026 The Via Crucis of La Sang is one of the most visual moments. The silence as the sacred image travels along the Archaeological Promenade, framed by Roman walls, offers an atmosphere of reflection unlike any other city, given the complexity of tilting the Holy Christ to pass through the narrow Roman wall entrance. Day and Time Event Location 29/03, 11:00 Palm Sunday Pontifical Mass Tarragona Cathedral 29/03, 17:00 Procession of Jesus’ Entry into Jerusalem Sant Joan Parish (Plaça Prim) 29/03, 19:00 Via Crucis of La Sang through the Walled Enclosure Nazareth Church (Plaça del Rei) La Salle Processional Via Crucis in the Old Town Monday, March 30, 2026 Holy Monday is highlighted by the Via Crucis organized by La Salle College of Tarragona. Families and students actively participate in this tradition, walking through the heart of the historic center by the light of torches (*atxes*). Day and Time Event Location 30/03, 19:00 Processional Via Crucis (La Salle) Streets of the Part Alta Procession of the Nazarenes in Tarragona Tuesday, March 31, 2026 The Royal Brotherhood of Jesus of Nazareth takes center stage on Holy Tuesday. The rigor of its members and the sound of the aspirants’ band mark a route through Rambla Vella and the streets of the Old Town. Notably, they use bagpipes, unlike the ‘Ecce Homo’ guild which uses the traditional Catalan *sac de gemecs*. Day and Time Event Location 31/03, 20:00 Procession of the Nazarenes Sant Francesc Church (Rambla Vella) Procession of Sorrow on Rambla Nova Wednesday, April 1, 2026 This procession brings together the five *pasos* (floats) representing the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary. It is the ideal time to see the diversity of Tarragona’s religious imagery on the broad Rambla Nova. Afterward, guild members gather for traditional fraternal dinners. Day and Time Event Location 01/04, 19:45 Procession of Sorrow (Dolor) Sant Joan Parish (Plaça Prim) Honor Guard of the ‘Armats’ of Tarragona Thursday, April 2, 2026 Holy Thursday is the day to visit the “Monuments” in the churches. We especially recommend the honor guard shifts of the Armats (Roman soldiers) at the churches of Nazareth, Sant Pere (Serrallo), and Sant Llorenç, where they guard the Blessed Sacrament. Day and Time Event Location 02/04, 18:30 Honor Guard of the ‘Armats de La Sang’ Nazareth Church (Plaça del Rei) 02/04, 20:00 Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper Tarragona Cathedral Procession of the Holy Burial in Tarragona Friday, April 3, 2026 Declared a National Heritage Festival, this is the most solemn event. In the afternoon, don’t miss the collection of the floats by the Armats of Tarragona, as the Roman soldiers search for each ‘misteri’ (float) at its headquarters to bring it to Plaça del Rei. Before the floats are collected, the ‘Armats de la Sang’ perform a private act of reverence to the Holy Christ, a moment of deep devotion. Day and Time Event Location 03/04, 06:15 Early Morning Processional Via Crucis Nazareth Church (Old Town) 03/04, 16:00 Collection of Floats by the Armats Streets of the City 03/04, 19:30 Procession of the Holy Burial Start and end at Nazareth Church Procession of Solitude in Tarragona Saturday, April 4, 2026 An act of extreme elegance led by women. The members of the ‘Soledat’ guild, in rigorous black dress and lace mantilla, accompany the Virgin Mary on her return journey. Day and Time Event Location 04/04, 18:00 Procession of Our Lady of Solitude Nazareth Church (Plaça del Rei) Easter Monday in Tarragona Monday, April 6, 2026 Holy Week in Tarragona is not just about devotion and tradition; there is also space for fun for the little ones. Within the family agenda, two proposals stand out and gain more followers every year. First, the city celebrates the 5th edition of the Easter Egg Hunt, a fun day of searching for Easter eggs accompanied by various family activities. On the other hand, for families looking for direct contact with nature and local history, the Tarragona City Council organizes the “Explore as a Family at Mas del Sorder” activity. A unique opportunity to discover the heritage of Tarragona’s Green Belt in a dynamic way. TGNA with Tarragona’s local businesses

Alan is a property manager for TGNA in Tarragona.

Visiting Tarragona is usually synonymous with discovering the city’s heritage legacy, but at TGNA we know that every visitor has different needs. That is why our five apartment buildings are designed to welcome both couples enjoying a weekend getaway and professionals on an industrial plant shutdown looking for a seasonal rental. In this sense, Alan is the manager of the TGNA apartments, and throughout this month of January, you will find him moving between Reial 1 and Rambla 68, conveying the confidence and expertise that define our service to guests. With him at the helm, we are equipping our five buildings with new screens where we showcase content from our local partners—that is, from local businesses. Precisely, these televisions where we share the best local experiences were bought from Quico at Bazar el Puerto. With him, everything is easy, fast and, above all, affordable. In fact, it is much more cost-effective for us than going to a large shopping center in Les Gavarres; that place where they want you to believe that ‘I’m no fool,’ but where the reality is that the product ends up being more expensive than at the local neighborhood shop. Experiences, excursions and activities in Tarragona On the other hand, this winter we have taken the opportunity to improve our tourism digitalization by incorporating Ranklean, Sarai and, now, we are adding 5 new televisions in the entrance of each of TGNA’s 5 apartment buildings. These screens are a new digital showcase for our local partners. We want our visitors to know where to find the best local products in Tarragona. From the artisan bakery to the supermarket to fill their basket with fresh produce, discovering wine tourism and ending the day at the best restaurant in the city. Ultimately, the goal of TGNA Tarragona Apartaments is to make you feel like one of the locals. We love it when our guests hit the streets, greet the shopkeepers, and discover the capital of the Costa Daurada. This is how we create a bond where everyone wins, the city becomes more vibrant, and the traveler enjoys a truly authentic experience.

Sarai: TGNA’s digital booking assistant

Enric Hernández, co-director of TGNA, showing a booking confirmation automated by Sarai.

At TGNA Tarragona Apartaments, we continue to focus on innovation to ensure that your experience in the capital of the Costa Daurada is excellent from the very first contact. With this goal in mind, we have just integrated Sarai, Mirai’s AI agent, into our booking engine to complement our customer service efforts. Conversational AI for direct and effective communication This new conversational AI tool handles customer service 24 hours a day; for example, it can help you decide whether it is better to choose TGNA Reial 1 as an apartment for professionals or TGNA Llúria 11 to enjoy a show at the Tarragona Theatre. The application uses advanced language models that enable fluid and precise interaction, guaranteeing an immediate response at any time. Thanks to this technology, communication with the client is direct and effective. The system processes natural language and responds contextually to resolve technical queries about where to sleep, where to eat, or where to park in Tarragona. The implementation of this digital assistant represents a qualitative leap in TGNA’s booking management; while until now you could be assisted by Enric in Catalan or Kris in Tagalog, from now on we are adding up to 100 written languages and the option to receive voice responses in 33 different languages. Additionally, the agent can resolve multiple doubts in a single interaction, always maintaining the coherence of the conversation thread because we are fueling it with our own expertise and knowledge of the city of Tarragona. One of the key points is the total synchronization with our booking engine. Guests can check availability, updated rates, and apartment photos in real time. They also have the ability to verify their booking status or manage a cancellation autonomously and quickly. Digitalization of local knowledge The assistant uses the Intelligence platform as its sole data source, which we at TGNA continuously update with useful information. We have structured all the information regarding our five buildings in the center of Tarragona to ensure that responses are accurate and helpful. In addition to accommodation details, the system also includes data on points of interest and local services. In this way, we offer comprehensive technical assistance that facilitates the guest’s stay from the moment of planning. This technological solution reinforces our digital management model and keeps us aligned with SDG 9 and 11, focused on innovation and sustainable communities, as we have already done with Ranklean. Sarai is already operational on our website and will soon be expanded to other communication channels such as WhatsApp.

Calçotada in Tarragona

Calçotada in Tarragona on the interior terrace of the TGNA Cervantes 8 apartment. A much more comfortable and exclusive alternative to staying in a hotel, to enjoy a private calçotada with family or friends.

When the winter cold arrives, between January and April, it’s calçots season in Tarragona. It’s the time to enjoy a traditional calçotada. Whether with family, friends, or colleagues, this gastronomic experience is one of the most anticipated in Catalonia. At TGNA, Tarragona Apartments, we know how to stand out from any hotel in Tarragona and offer you the opportunity to enjoy a truly special calçotada on one of the terraces of our apartments in the center of Tarragona. Discovering Tarragona means immersing yourself in its history, gastronomy, and local traditions. Seafood dishes like suquet de peix from the Serrallo or the calçotada with romesco sauce are a must to experience our cuisine. Similarly, the Camp de Tarragona is the true pantry of the city. The best ingredients for our restaurants are produced here. Thanks to our local commerce, Tarragona enjoys high-quality fruit, vegetables, fish, and meat. A real luxury for lovers of fine cuisine. Calçotada in an apartment in Tarragona At TGNA, Tarragona Apartments, we want you to feel at home. That’s why we offer you a gastronomic journey into the Mediterranean essence of Tarragona. We encourage you to enjoy a calçotada on the terrace of one of our apartments in the center of Tarragona. You can choose between TGNA Llúria 11, Reding 22, Rambla 68, or Cervantes 8. Although it may seem complicated, organizing a calçotada in Tarragona is easy. You just need to know where to buy cooked calçots or where to go to a specialized restaurant. To prove it, we held a small calçotada on the interior terrace of TGNA Cervantes 8 and bought a bundle of 25 cooked calçots for €7.50 at Calçots Santacreu. We accompanied this delicious calçotada with a romesco sauce from Fruits S&P and a Camí de la Font wine from Vinyes del Tiet Pere. A true celebration of Mediterranean flavors. IGP calçots de Valls First of all, it should be noted that the calçotada was born at the end of the 19th century in Valls, thanks to a farmer named Xat de Benaiges. One day, to change his usual lunch, he decided to eat some grilled onions, which eventually became a typical dish of Catalan popular cuisine. Tarragona is a city full of history, where visitors are captivated by its ancient urban center and its rich Mediterranean side. In Tarragona, you can explore the city center, shop at the Mercat de Bonavista, or take a walk to the Tamarit Castle, passing by the calçots planted in the Hortes de Ferran along the way. Near Tarragona, we find some of the best producers of IGP Calçots de Valls d’ Horta Blanch . With over 30 years of experience, they grow the best calçots in Catalonia , available in their shop, greengrocers and supermarkets in Altafulla and Tarragona. Cooked calçots to take away in Tarragona In Sant Salvador, near the Tarragona petrochemical complex, we find the family-owned company Calçots Santacreu, specialized in the cultivation and cooking of calçots to take away. They offer excellent quality at reasonable prices. In Tarragona, it’s common to buy cooked calçots and finish the meal by grilling meat, a convenient option for families and groups of friends. You can also find cooked calçots at the greengrocer El Racó del Pagès, in the Vall de l’Arrabassada, and at the shop El Corral de Boscos, specializing in homemade food to take away. Calçotada at restaurants in Tarragona In the Serrallo neighborhood of Tarragona, Restaurant Varadero offers a taste of calçots all year round, while Mas Roselló Restaurant and Piticuixa Restaurant offer a seasonal calçotada menu, with a usual price range of €40-50 per person. For an authentic calçotada, the best option is to visit El Trull Restaurant, a small establishment offering Catalan cuisine and grilled dishes on Via Augusta, recently awarded as the best traditional dish on the show Joc de Cartes. In addition to the more classic options, it’s worth highlighting the restaurants located in the industrial zones of Tarragona. Restaurants Molina and El Gordo 2 offer daily menus at competitive prices and, during the winter, they serve grilled dishes and… calçots. Romesco sauce recipe for calçotada Finally, we would like to highlight that every city center has a library, and our TGNA Cervantes 8 building is next to the Tarragona Library, which has over 175 years of history. Taking advantage of its proximity, we visited the first floor of the library and consulted their Catalan cuisine recipe book. In this way, we’re sharing a romesco sauce (salvitxada) recipe, perfect to accompany the calçots of the season. Ingredients: Preparation: first you will have to soak the nyoras and then you will have to separate the flesh from the skin. Second, you need to scale and peel the garlic and tomatoes. Finally, all the ingredients must be brought together to grind them with an electric arm. Comments: the amount of oil or vinegar can vary depending on the taste of each person and there is the possibility of adding a little mint to flavor the sauce. The romesco sauce and the calçot sauce are not quite the same. Uses: The dried fruit will stand out quite a bit in the sauce, so it pairs well with grilled or roasted vegetables, any blue or white fish cooked the same way or even steamed, seafood, and also cold meats. However, calçots, as the name suggests, are the most suitable vegetables to enjoy with this sauce. Just be careful with the amount of chili you add, depending on who will be using it.
