Chronicle of a complete journey through the Roman, medieval, and modern past
Accompanied by Xavi Mejuto, Enric, Jordi, and Lady, among others, we explored the key points of the city’s historical legacy. This was our work route.
- Roman Amphitheater: we started the day right by the sea, reviewing the history of this 2nd-century venue that hosted gladiator fights and beast hunts in front of thousands of spectators.
- Roman Circus and Praetorium: we ventured into the monumental underground vaults of the Circus, one of the best-preserved chariot racing buildings in the West, directly connected to the Praetorium tower.
- Pla de la Seu and Cathedral: once in the Part Alta, we analyzed how medieval Tarragona was built over the Roman forum, a transformation that can be perfectly appreciated in the square providing access to the Cathedral.
- Casa Castellarnau: we made a stop at this 14th-century palace-house to learn how the nobility of Tarragona lived during the modern era, discovering its Gothic courtyard and noble rooms.
- Tarragona Walls: we wrapped up the visit at the Archaeological Promenade, walking along the foot of the oldest Roman construction preserved outside Italy to understand the evolution of the city’s defenses.
